What is Neighbour Day?

* indicates a required field.

Overview

Neighbour Day is Australia’s annual celebration of community connection, held on the last Sunday in March — 29 March 2026. It is a call to action for people everywhere to connect with one another in simple, meaningful ways.

Research shows that strong community connections:

  • increase a sense of belonging
  • improve wellbeing
  • reduce loneliness
  • build resilient communities

The 2026 theme is ‘Belonging Every Day’.
This theme encourages small, everyday acts of connection — a wave, a chat, or sharing a cuppa — that help create inclusive and welcoming communities. In 2026, we challenge communities not only to create and share belonging, but to grow it through empathy, inclusion, and compassion.

Greater Shepparton City Council invites Community Planning Groups and Community Asset Committees to apply for funding to deliver local Neighbour Day events.

Important:

Funded projects must take place between July and December 2026. Applications outside this timeframe may be considered at Council’s discretion.

This round is intended to be a quick response funding opportunity.
